Grounding means direct skin contact with the surface of the Earth, whether it be dirt, grass, or sand.

When walking barefoot, our body absorbs free ions from the Earth’s surface, which act as antioxidants. These antioxidants enhance our health and lead to positive feeling in the body.

Grounding offers many health benefits, including improved sleep, reduced inflammation, improved tissue and cell repair, enhanced blood flow, increased heart rate variability, and improved electrical activity in the brain. In addition, walking barefoot on the ground releases endorphins. This can improve our mood and counteract mental illness such as depression and anxiety. Indoor Grounding

To practice grounding, I tried to locate the closest beach from home. We are living in urban environment; it is indeed an effort to look for a suitable occasion to walk barefoot. We cannot do it at work, or going out socialising. Some people may be able to practice at home but this is definitely not my case as I live on 58th floor so I don’t touch the ground at home. I can see beautiful mountains from my bedroom but to reach them I have to take a bus.

Once I found an online store which sells various types of grounding products such as mats, shoes, bed sheets, pillowcases etc. I visited their showroom and bought a mat which I put it under my desk so I can put my feet on it when I am playing with my computer. It is convenient. Cecilia said it was a good compromise, so I am happy to have this grounding mat at home for use.

Outdoor Grounding

I google to find Clear Water Bay Beach which is just about 9 km from home and cost about HK$90 to get there by taxi in about 15 minutes. That sounds good. Though it would be difficult to go there every day, as a start, it is not complicated. The best was a dear friend was back in town for a month. I got her company to jump into the taxi one morning trying to go there.

A little confusion as the taxi driver seemed to think that we wanted to go somewhere else that he drove us to Silverstrand Beach. That was not Clear Water Bay Beach for sure. But it was a beach and it cost less to get there. OK we gave a try.

The beach was small and there was not much space available to put towel on the sand to lie down comfortably. We sat on a slab and unload our gear. The good thing was that the beach was almost deserted. The weather was sunny and breezy. Naturally we took off our shoes to walk on the sand and to feel the cool sea water. It was so nice. I said to myself, YES, I did it! We were grounding!!!!

Going Back is Easy

It is very easy for me to go there again by taxi. I even noticed that I could possibly take MTR for two stations then get out to walk for about 30 minutes to arrive at the beach. Great, I even have options! Thanks to the taxi driver to have taken us to Silverstrand Beach by mistake. We spent a lovely afternoon there.

It would be hard to say what benefit grounding has brought with just one visit. I remember though I did feel enlightened, on the day of course with my dear friend having a good time, the next day as I chat with my friend how much I enjoyed the beach day.
